My Greatest Garage Sale Find

I have already posted the pictures of my greatest garage sale find this year, it is down on the post below that says almost finished. I purchased this chair for $2.00 and had all of this fabric at home already, so I was so excited to be able to do this.

This is a before pic and an after pic with the goat hide on back and pink cowgirl fabric on the seat and fringe on the bottom.

  1. $2?!? Where does everyone find these great deals? I'm living in the wrong part of the country, I tell you! You did a very good cover-up job, too. :-)

  2. Hi I just clicked on your name over at Rhoda's. I enjoyed this post.

My comment is for the little trailer post.

My mother bought a trailer similar to yours for $100, in late 1951. I was 8 years old, at the time. My sister was age 5. Imagine what $100 was worth in 1951! In February 1952, we pulled that trailer, behind a brand new Mercury, to Illinois and parked it in a trailer park (in those days that's what they were called, rather than mobile home park) near Chanute AFB, where my father was stationed. My parents, my sister and I lived in the little trailer for 2 months, that winter, before selling it and buying a larger trailer, just before we moved to Texas, where my father had been transferred. We lived in the new (27 ft) trailer about a year, before moving to a house. I won't ever forget the little trailer, like yours, and the winter we lived in it, in Champagne Illinois.

Our trailer was 16ft. Instead of a stove, there was a 2 burner electric hotplate and an ice box, no refrigerator. Blocks of ice were used to cool the ice box. We went to a "wash house" for toilet,
showers and laundry. There was no plumbing in the trailer and the only heat was a small electric heater.

It was quite common for military families to live in a trailer, this size, in those days.

I'd love for you to stop by my blog.

Thanks for taking me down memory lane, with that post. It was fun!

  3. That is the key...buying your trash and turning it into treasure right away. Love it!! What are you going to do with the headboard?

I hope you sell yours---even though you don't want to. It looks like so much fun! It was great to meet you through Rhoda's Thrifty Finds. Dana
